Are There Good, Cheap Medical Transcription Schools? |

 A solid education is one of the best ways to improve your chances of working at home as a medical transcriptionist. But that doesn't make it any easier when you're trying to find an affordable way to get your medical transcription education.
The best online schools can cost $2000-3000. That's a lot of money if you're just scraping by, and it can be hard to come up with for a lot of people.
But I really don't recommend going cheap on your education.
The reason why not is very simple. If cheap doesn't get you the job, you've lost money. Your medical transcription education is a big part of what lands you that first hard to find job.
There are a lot of options out there for learning medical transcription. You may even be able to learn it from local community colleges. But you need to investigate and make sure that you are getting quality for your money, whether you're spending a little or a lot.
If at all possible, you're best off going with an ADHI approved program. There
are a few such schools online. That's one of the few ways to tell if the school is really going to be teaching you what you need to know in order to transcribe successfully. There are a lot of schools out there that don't give you nearly the knowledge and skills you will need every day as a medical transcriptionist.
So how can you control the costs?
There aren't many schools that are eligible for students with Pell Grants, unfortunately. There are a few, and if you can qualify for one I strongly encourage you to find an approved school to go with it. No better way to go cheap than to have someone else handle much of the expense, right?
But many schools won't expect you to come up with the money upfront if that's too hard for you. Check around and see who has a payment plan you can handle. While you may end up paying a little more for the privilege, at least it's broken down into something you can handle.
Whatever you do, don't sacrifice quality over cost issues. Find a way to make it work so that you get an education that will allow you to become a working medical transcriptionist, rather than one of the disappointed horde whose educations were cheap but just not good enough.
Medical transcription is a demanding career. If you think it's expensive to get into, just compare the cost to going to college or going to a technical school. In a lot of ways it really doesn't cost you all that much to get into a career that may provide you with a good living and benefits.
