We all love to cook. Well, most of us anyways. Cooking is can be a great joy, especially getting the ones you love involved. There is no better time than the present to make it happen. Have a read through this article to find out some of the tool and strategies you need to get your child cooking like a master chef.

Did you know that teaching a child to follow a recipe is beneficial to skills such as reading, comprehension, basic math, and the ability to follow directions? These skills are some of the most important skills a child needs for a successful experience in school.

Some of the basic tools you will need for your pint sized chef include a wire whisk, mixing bowls, hot pads, wooden spoons, plastic measuring cups, and of course an apron. Stay away from recipes that involve cutting or other tools that may be dangerous for a child to handle (such as knifes).

Depending on the age of your child there are many different activities that they can help out with, including getting ingredients for you, cracking eggs, pouring flour, mixing and stirring. Baking and basic food preparation is the best way to start out with your child. Making vegetable faces, blending up some delicious smoothies, or even decorating some cupcakes are some simple cooking tasks to do with your child. This will provide some valuable time together, as well as the opportunity for teachable moments.

When starting to cook with your child, make sure that safety is your number one priority. Keep children away from the hot stove, sharp knives, and even the cheese grater. Start using a cookbook that illustrates the instructions. This helps to develop your child's ability to follow sequential instructions. Allow your child to pour the ingredients into the bowl, and make sure that you keep your recipes simple at first - fruit salads, dips, sandwiches and various types of cookies make a great start.

If you are serious about your child helping out, it is a good idea to have a set of plastic bake ware, mixing cups, bowls because they are safer and easier for your child to handle. Be sure to always praise your child's work, even if the result isn't what you expected. Clean up spills with a smile on your face and you and your child will be a chef team like no other.

Have fun making memories together, and stick with it. Cooking is a very enjoyable activity... especially the delicious foods you create.
