STATEN ISLAND ADVANCE -- Standing shoulder-to-shoulder and filling several blocks outside City Hall, thousands of education advocates staged a rally in the rain yesterday to decry Mayor Michael Bloomberg's proposed cuts in the Department of Education budget.

Maine's Education Commissioner Sue Gendron announces that all students up to the 11th grade will have to make up days lost to this winter's snow storms.
